Jason Derulo wrote over 300 songs for his new album, Talk Dirty. He somehow managed to whittle those 300 tracks down to 11, which he describes as his “lasting experiences.” In an interview with Radio.com, Derulo explained that his life is revealed on each song of his release. “I’m very, very honest on this album,” he told Radio.com.
In addition to being remarkably honest, Derulo said he wanted to make sure his release was a “roller coaster ride” for listeners. And that he does as Talk Dirty pulls out all the stops with appearances from 2 Chainz, Snoop Dogg, Tyga, Kid Ink and girlfriend Jordin Sparks and production credits from Timbaland, DJ Mustard and RedOne.
“Every single song was totally different from the last,” he explained. “My first album was written when I was 19-years-old. I wanted to be sure this album was far different from that one, to make sure that the growth was present. I’m 23 now. I really wanted this album to be a direct representation of who I am. I didn’t want to hide anything. This album, I wanted to tell a story.”
He added: “This album just has so many different dimensions. I didn’t just want to go down this one lane. There are so many sides of me,” he said. “I wanted to be sure we covered all aspects of my personality and I also think it’s pretty boring to hear an album that’s one lane and continues to be on the same ride.”

A track he dubs as being a “very sexy song,” “Vertigo” features his girlfriend Sparks. Derulo confessed that it took a while for him and Sparks to merge their work styles in the studio.
“It was a lot of fun actually. In the beginning when we started to work together it wasn’t as fun, it wasn’t as easy,” he admitted. “We had to try to find each other’s pallet and we finally found it. ‘Vertigo’ is one of the products of the happier studio sessions. It’s very stripped down and piano based so you can hear every emotion. You can almost see the story in your head.”
The roller coaster ride continues on album closer, “Marry Me” where Derulo professes to get his girl a ring when he “gets his money right.”
“Some songs on the album are difficult to listen to at times,” Derulo added. “There is a very emotional part of an album. When you hear those songs, they take you back to that dark moment that you don’t necessarily like to be in.”
